Mary Fenn DCDistrict 11 Chairman Mary Fenn

Life is certainly different as I take on the Chairman’s Office for District 11. I would have had my Installation on a, warm, sunny day in June and now it has been postponed until November.

The District executive committee have been having Skype & Zoom meetings to ensure our District organisation is continuing in this unique time. Many of us have been isolating or required to shield but Inner Wheel clubs and members have done their best to continue our friendship. Clubs have had fun Zoom meetings, emails, buddy groups, phone calls and visits, if possible, to help where needed.

Some of our members have been busy doing service by sewing scrub & personal bags, PPE for the NHS and care homes and also making washable masks. It is really pleasing that Inner Wheel is contributing where they can. Charities have also been helped by donations from many members and friends.

My chosen charity is ‘Cancer Research UK’ that has many shops in our district and also under normal circumstances would have held many events such as the ‘Race for Life’. We have had personal experience for how their research benefited our son after his diagnosis of throat cancer 5 years ago and I am pleased to say he has made a good recovery.

I hope I will be able to welcome as many of you as possible to my Installation, with a difference, as there won’t be an AGM but that we will be able to celebrate and socialise after an extended time without our usual meetings.

Please, stay safe and take care,

mary fenn sig
